At its best, the media can educate, inform and entertain. Equally as important, the media is a useful tool to generate awareness and provide solutions to assist people who are in need of assistance. The Media Prima – NSTP Humanitarian Fund has a long and proud history of being involved and working with our generous contributors and technical partners to assist victims of poverty, disasters, wars/political conflicts and those in dire need of medical assistance.
The Media Prima – NSTP Humanitarian Fund was set up as part of Media Prima’s effort to fulfil its social obligations. The purpose is to provide financial assistance and relief in kind, for the benefit of persons who are poor, less fortunate or deserving of such aid irrespective of race, religion or creed. These include:
－For the relief of sickness, disease, infirmity, incapacity, disability, including fees for payment of medical treatment, equipment and ancillary assistance.
－For the relief of distress caused by poverty, natural catastrophes, social calamities, war and other circumstances.
As a member of the largest integrated media Group in Malaysia, the Media Prima – NSTP Humanitarian Fund has access to a wide variety of media platforms to generate awareness and create positive engagement with communities to assist those in need. We utilise Media Prima’s four free-to-air television channels, three major news publications, four radio stations, out-of-home advertising and digital media to make known of deserving cases. And utilising Media Prima’s content production company, we can produce content that compels the public to contribute.
It is important to note that Media Prima does this as part of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and as such uses its resources to execute the awareness campaigns. As such, funds generated are fully utilised to benefit those in need.
To promote good governance in managing the funds, the Media Prima – NSTP Humanitarian Fund is governed by Media Prima’s Humanitarian Fund Policy. This policy provides a framework on how funds collected through our campaigns are managed responsibly. The Fund is governed by a Board of Trustee comprising of a balanced composition of external appointees and internal company representatives. The Board of Trustees is assisted by a Humanitarian Fund Committee established to supervise day-to-day operations of the fund.
It is one of our primary aims to ensure transparency and as such, we publish our Annual Donation Report which can be found on this website. We also undergo an annual audit by an external auditor.
