Hole-in-heart girl needs immediate surgery

KUALA LUMPUR: A 12-year-old girl is in need of funds to undergo surgery immediately at Gleneagles Hospital here.

Siti Nur Faridah was diagnosed with a hole-in-the-heart since birth, and the blood vessels to her lungs are also blocked.

The surgery costs RM60,000.

Faridahi’s father Mazelan Stapa, 52, said when his daughter was first diagnosed with having a hole-in-the-heart, she was admitted for 11 days at the hospital.

When she was nine months old, she was referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) and was told she needed immediate surgery costing at least RM40,000.

“As we could not afford it, we just went back home,” he said.

“Now Faridah has become very weak and gets exhausted easily. She also shivers frequently due to her illness,” he said

Mazelan said his daughter spent three months at Kuala Krai Hospital from June.

“The doctor said her heart was infected and she needs to take antibiotics as her immune system was weak,” he said.

From Kuala Krai Hospital, Faridah was transferred to Gleneagles to prepare for her operation.

Mazelan is an imam at Mengkebang Baru mosque in Kuala Krai with a monthly income of RM1,400. His wife Asiah Md Nor, 48, is not working.

The couple also have a son, Filmaaruf, 26, who is disabled.
