Parents of heart defect baby appeal for donations

KUALA LUMPUR: The parents of a 1-month-old baby girl are appealing for donations to allow her to undergo heart surgery.

Putri Irdina Ahamad Maududi was diagnosed with interrupted aortic arch and ventricular septal deformity (VSD), or commonly known as hole in the heart, when she was three days old.

Siti Akma Ahmad, 27, and her husband Ahamad Maududi Zawawi, 28, said their daughter was in a critical condition and needed RM60,000 to undergo surgery immediately at Gleneagles Hospital, Kuala Lumpur.

“The doctors said Putri was breathing rapidly right after delivery”, said Siti Akma.

“On the second day, she developed jaundice. Then, the doctors diagnosed she has two serious health problems — blocked blood vessels in her legs, and hole in the heart.

“I was shocked when I was told about her condition.

“I did not experience any complications during pregnancy”.

The couple, who are from Terengganu, are staying in Shah Alam with Siti Akma’s sister .

“We are commuting by motorcycle every day to the hospital as it is cheaper than taking a Grab”, she said, adding that they could not afford the surgery with the family’s monthly income of RM2,200.

Those who wish to donate can send cheques made payable to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund, with the patient’s name written on the reverse side of the cheque, to: The Group Corporate Communications Department, Media Prima Bhd, Level 1, Anjung Riong, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
